Sustainable Farming Practices

We are proud at Cloonybreen Farm, of how we care for our animals and we embrace the work it requires to pasture our pigs and create our sustainable farm. Because our pigs roam freely and spend their days in idyllic surroundings they do not need antibiotics.  Our meats are processed in a small local USDA inspected butchery that is also Animal Welfare Approved.

Because our pigs get readily available nutrients from fresh pasture plants our pork products contain more vitamin E, beta carotene, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin E and beta carotene, the precursor to vitamin A, are powerful antioxidants that, among other functions, help our bodies cope with toxins. Omega-3's help protect heart cells and other systems in the body from developing stresses that can lead to such conditions as an irregular heart beats or high blood pressure.

The high quality lard from pastured pigs also contains high amounts of vitamin D (which many Americans are deficient in) & vitamin A Antioxidants. Pasture raised pigs have 74% more selenium than pigs raised on factory farms. Selenium needs Vitamin E to work as antioxidant, which makes pork such an amazing food since it has both. Antioxidants like selenium help fight damaging particles in the body known as free radicals. Selenium also plays a role in thyroid function, specifically related to the immune system.

Our pork has a flavor that is deeper, richer,  and more complex than any factory-farmed meat you have ever tasted. We hope you will try some and see for yourself the difference local pasture pork can make and taste.
